Hand over the keys.
And the know-how.

Solar clarity for the transaction

Help clients buy and sell with confidence.

What equipment is on the roof? Is the system working? Which warranties are available? Who gets the monitoring account? What does the new owner need to do with the utility?

We help turn those questions into documented findings and practical next steps. Realtors get a solar specialist to bring into the conversation. Sellers can understand issues before handing over the property. Buyers receive a report and a guide they can keep using after move-in.

The complete solar handoff

One package.
Seven important pieces.

From the condition of the equipment to the steps the new owner needs to take, the audit connects the technical details with everyday ownership.

01

Full system audit

We assess the solar system’s condition and operation, identify the installed equipment and document findings that need attention. Existing batteries and monitoring equipment are addressed as applicable to the system and agreed scope.

02

Hardware warranty information

We gather available warranty information for the installed hardware and organize it for the homeowner. The handoff identifies relevant manufacturer contacts, available coverage details and any transfer steps or information still needed.

Warranty eligibility and transferability depend on the manufacturer’s terms and the system’s records.

03

System software updates

We review system software and firmware, apply available manufacturer-supported updates where access and compatibility allow, and document any updates or outstanding access issues.

04

Infrared imaging

We use thermal imaging as part of the audit to evaluate temperature patterns and flag areas that may need closer investigation. Relevant images and findings are included in the report.

Imaging depends on suitable operating and weather conditions. Thermal findings are interpreted alongside the rest of the audit.

05

A system benchmark

We establish a documented performance baseline using the measurements and operating data available during the audit. It gives the new homeowner a reference point for future system checks.

The benchmark records the conditions and data available; it is not a guarantee of future output or utility savings.

06

A written audit report

The report brings together equipment details, inspection findings, relevant images, the performance benchmark, software-update status and recommended next steps. It distinguishes documented findings from items that need further investigation.

07

Built for the person moving in

A comprehensive owner’s manual

A step-by-step guide to the home’s solar system, including ownership transfer, monitoring access, warranty information, utility interconnection and ongoing care. It gives the new homeowner a practical place to start—and a reference to come back to.

Their new home. Their solar guide.

The manual stays useful after closing.

The audit report documents what we found. The owner’s manual explains what to do next. We organize it around the home’s equipment and the new owner’s responsibilities, with clear instructions and relevant contacts.

Homeowners should be able to find the answer to “Where do I start?” without sorting through a stack of unrelated product brochures.

A handoff with the details covered

Ownership has more than one moving part.

Manufacturer accounts and utility records serve different purposes. The manual helps homeowners work through both, along with the documents tied to their equipment.

We identify the next steps for the actual system and utility. Completion may require action from the buyer, seller, manufacturer or utility.

Equipment & monitoring

Identify the system manufacturer, work through account access and ownership-transfer requirements, and check applicable warranty-transfer terms.

Utility & interconnection

Obtain the available interconnection paperwork, identify the utility’s process for the new owner and follow up on the required agreement or assignment. Confirm the outcome with the utility rather than assuming an electric-account change completes every solar step.

Purchase & financing documents

If the system has a lease, power purchase agreement or loan, the buyer and seller also need to work with the relevant provider and their transaction team. The technical audit does not establish title, release a lien or transfer a financing contract.

For example, Xcel Energy describes the interconnection agreement as the contract governing the customer’s connection and operation. Read Xcel’s interconnection overview. The applicable process must be confirmed with the home’s utility.

Bring us in early

A clear path from questions to handoff.

Request an audit before listing, during a buyer’s inspection period or as part of the transition to a new homeowner. Share any transaction deadlines at the start so we can discuss scheduling and access.

  1. Share the property and timing

Send the address, your role in the transaction, available system details and any inspection or closing dates.

  2. Coordinate access and the audit

We confirm the scope, arrange authorized property and monitoring access, gather available records and evaluate the system.

  3. Review the findings and next steps

Receive the audit report, performance benchmark and documentation of any unresolved items or recommended work.

  4. Equip the new homeowner

The owner’s manual lays out the system information, transfer tasks, utility steps and care guidance for their solar home.

Common questions

Before the audit.

Is this only for homes that are under contract?

No. The service can help a seller prepare before listing, support a buyer’s review or help a new owner understand a system they have already purchased.

What should the Realtor or homeowner provide?

The property address, contact information, timing, known equipment details and any available installation, warranty, utility or monitoring records. We’ll coordinate authorized access. Don’t send account passwords by email.

What if the original installer is no longer available?

We can assess the existing system and help gather information from available records and manufacturer resources. Missing records or inaccessible accounts are identified so the homeowner knows what still needs to be resolved.

Does the audit guarantee that every warranty transfers?

No. We gather the available information and identify the relevant steps. Manufacturers determine eligibility, coverage and transfer requirements under their own terms.

Does changing the electric account automatically transfer the solar agreement?

Do not assume it does. The owner’s manual addresses the utility’s solar and interconnection process separately, including the records to request and any assignment or new agreement the utility requires.

What if the audit finds a problem?

We document the finding and recommended next steps. Any additional diagnostics, repairs or replacement work can be scoped separately so the parties can decide how to proceed.
